The Unabridged Version of My About Page

Even though I knew what I wanted to do in life, I took an indirect path to get to my goal and I’m so glad that I did. Why? Well, I earned my degrees in early childhood education and teaching reading. Having worked with young children in a school setting has given me lots of experience in knowing how children learn, what kids enjoy about books, how they think about the world around them and what features of a book can best support the reader. During that time I never stopped creating art and taking classes. I also took a few graphic design courses and I became proficient at using the Adobe Creative Cloud programs.

After having my own children, I self-published two board books as well as a matching game for Eastern Orthodox Christians. Even though my books are for a very small market, I’ve sold more copies than I could have imagined and sales are still going strong. Having gone through the self-publishing process on my own (I did not use a vanity press) I’ve learned everything from formatting files correctly to dealing with printers overseas. My only form of marketing has been creating an online presence and using social media to market my materials.

In the summer of 2017, I became the graphic designer of New Martyr Magazine, an Orthodox children’s magazine. I’ve also done book layouts, brochures and flyers for others. In my free time I like to spend time with my family, gardening and playing the piano.
